Other folks using my images as icons...

Ya know, it just occured to me that alot of people use other peoples art work as their icon, and in most cases, I doubt thats a bad thing. Except in my case. And I'll explain why.

Every drawing I draw, every creature I create is special to me. Each one is a representation of either how I'm feeling or who I am. For instance. Devon, he's my lust. Almus (The Triceratops I drew lately) embodies my sincere, sweet, and caring side. Agro embodies them all (me). And when someone takes an image of a character that I've given my personalities, I dont like other people using them as their image. They are avatars for myself, and I dont like seeing them becomming someone elses. Anywho, I dunno why I brought all this up, I guess I felt the need to post something.

Well that's very understandable.

Personally I can't understand why people use avatars to represent themselves which haven't been drawed for or by them.
Of course it doesn't apply to photographs, text and famous characters and people... In my opinion anyway

I think it's the same mentality. The same thing that makes people use famous characters is what makes them use other pictures as their avatars..

alt of the reason people do that is because it's generally dificult to get a good pic of your fursona.. espcially for new furs. Getting a good drawing can cost anywhere from 25 to 50, depending on if you know where to look.

The difference between using famous characters/persons and using an artists pictures pretty simple, IMO:
Famous characters describes your interests (My current icon is from a German movie I love), while artists pictures are used to try to represent your person, often in lack of having a picture of your fursona drawn especially for you.
I mean, very few people would use a picture of a skunk as their avatar if they are in fact a gryphon.

Unless they asked and you said yes, it seems poor judgment for them to do that. I agree with you. First things first; Ask the artest for permision.

I personally see the use of another person's rt as a very large compliment. I mean, to me, it says you have drawn something that reflect me so well that I felt it represented me well. This doesn't mean the meaning of it means the same to you and I, but it does meanyou artwork tugged at my soul.

Course, I've also ment to update my icon for a while since A) I don't have permission, and B) it's the only one I use. Contemplated your drawing of me agro... but I need to scan it in to icon size. :-p
